Sima Beatrice Bürgin

Sima started out at the age of four with the renowned children’s and youth theatre Rosmarie Metzenthin in Zurich, where she gained her initial experiences on the stage. In addition to theatre, ballet and acrobatics, she also received instruction in violin and piano.

At 19, Sima received the federal maturity certificate (type B) at the cantonal school in Wiedikon, Zurich. Having tired of years of studying Latin, she changed course, abandoning her plans to attend medical school in favour of going to Budapest in the East Bloc in order to study classical ballet according to the world-famous Vaganova Method at the State Ballet Institute (Àllami Ballet Intézet). Her passion for ballet carried her on to cities such as Geneva, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Ulm. She even danced to her own choreography in Volker Schlöndorff’s production of “Lady Macbeth von Mzensk” at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she appeared in many ballets and operas up to 1995.

Remaining true to her dance, Sima completed her Master of Advanced Studies in Dance Instruction at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2009, where she went on to teach as a guest lecturer in Pre-Ballet. As a lecturer at the Zurich Dance Academy, she was in charge of the pre-foundation course and  “Intercultural Comptency” from 2013-2015.

Sima continues to be active in a variety of music schools, dance and gymnastics studios as a dance instructor and Pilates coach. Her years of experience and a desire for a healthy and conscious attitude toward the body led Sima to develop her own training method, “Body Line Ballet”, which she has applied successfully in her instruction.
